A Week in the Life of a Resident

Ambulatory blocks are dedicated to clinical care at our comprehensive health center in the South Bronx, foundational primary care and epidemiology didactics, introduction to clinical systems and QI, and psychosocial sessions.

 

Week in the life of a PGY1

Clinic

  • Start to build your continuity panel from beginning of residency

  • Precept in 3:1 ratio

  • Begin year with 3 patients per session and increase to 5 by the end of PGY 1 year

  • At least 1 administrative session per week

Week in the life of a PGY2 & PGY3

Clinic

  • Continue to build continuity panel at CHCC

  • 3-4 administrative sessions per block

  • Patients with HIV, HCV and substance use disorders are folded into residents’ continuity panel

  • All CHCC preceptors have experience with treatment of substance use disorders and buprenorphine prescribing

  • Faculty with expertise in treatment of HCV guide residents through the process

  • Faculty and a team of non-MD colleagues support residents in the care of HIV patients

CHCC Practice Meeting

  • Interdisciplinary meeting for staff caring for adult patients at CHCC

  • Residents take part in a QI curriculum devoted to traditional methods of panel management and unique approaches, such as design thinking
