Clinical experience at CHCC
Collaboration with a community-based organization to create a dedicated time for the organization’s clients to gain easy access to a new patient appointment
Currently working with two Community Based Organization (CBOs) - one for recent immigrants from West Africa, one for individuals who recently left jail or prison
Precepting by dedicated faculty with expertise in care for the patient populations

Dedicated time to practice primary care skills with trained faculty
Current skills include Nexplanon insertion and removal, joint injection, assessment of people seeking asylum + affidavit writing, and medical marijuana prescribing

These are longitudinal experiences allows residents to see how care is delivered in non-traditional settings. Improving access to “hidden” populations through specialty clinics specifically linked to community based organizations that serve these populations:
Correctional health: Transitions Clinic with the Osborne Association
Supportive housing: The Brook with BronxWorks (Housing First Organization)
Harm reduction agencies: OnPointNYC
Immigration detention system: Human Rights Clinic with HealthRight International
Palliative care in a hospice facility: Calvary Hospital
Connecting our patients to organizations that provide resources: OPEN IT clinic with African Services Committee
